We had a nice birthday party for Liam since he didn’t have one for his first birthday. We had a bunch of friends and family over with their kids, we set up a pool and a bouncy house for him and made it toy story themed. I am not sure he really understood what was going on but it was fun to set it up for him.
Later in the evening all of the neighborhood kids came over and jumped in the house and then Alexa and Damian stayed late. We played with Liam in the bouncy house for or a while and then finally broke everything down. I woke up this morning completely exhausted from a busy weekend, I love that we do so much and have such fun weekends.
I’ve been feeling much better lately so I have been excited to get back to racing my bike. I did the porcupine hill climb a few weeks back and did ok but much slower than my usual speed, probably because I weigh more. The tt championship is the perfect race for me because it is flat and I could compare myself to other riders.
This week started out horribly for me when I tweaked my neck and had to go to a chiropractor. This whole week I felt horrible and couldn’t see myself racing. Even yesterday I wasn’t sure I would be able to but last night I figured I would go for it.
I got up this morning and felt pretty good. Ira and I met up and warmed up together. We started about three minutes apart. I went out pretty strong but started to red line, there were even times where I thought I would have to slow down a lot. The other problem was my saddle position which was so uncomfortable that several times i had to sit up. At the half way point I wasn’t to far ahead of the guy behind me and thought for sure he would catch me. Something kept me going as much as I wanted to quit and I actually got into a groove a bit closer to the end.
At the finish I wasn’t able to deliver though. All three of us finished within 25 seconds of each other, there were so many times I could have gained back those seconds but I was happy to finish strong and only a half minute behind Ira. This gave me some great confidence and now I really look forward to getting on top of my fitness like my first year.
